Who are you and where are you all from?
We are Myriad and we are from the outskirts of London England, a place called Surrey. (I'm Stephan the drummer/backing vocalist)
How long have you been together?
Myriad as a project has been around for about 8 years, but as a full band, around 4. Our line up has changed a lot throughout those years!
Describe your kind of music?
This is always the tough one. Our music is very individual and we have something to offer everyone, whether its the heavy riffs you need, the catchy choruses, the harmonised vocals or the screaming, we've got it.
Whats your myspace link or any other link you want to give us?
all details can be found on our myspace!
What band has influenced you the most?
Each band member has different influences ranging from Muse, to InMe, to classics like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
What inspires your lyrics?
Our lyrics tend to be inspired by situations in life, good, bad and ugly.
Describe your band in one word?
What were some of your favorite bands growing up?
I can't speak for everyone when I say this, but I think everyone in the band went through the Nu-Metal phase listening to the likes of System of a Down, Rammstein, Deftones, Limp Bizkit etc. But also bands such as Muse, Rammstein and InMe, with a pinch of Blink 182 and Slipknot!
Do you have any upcoming shows?
We do indeed! We are playing a house party in Brighton soon, followed by a gig in Brighton in October time, dates still to be confirmed!
What are your favorite venues to play at?
READING FESTIVAL!!!We played on the smaller stage. It was the best experience of my life. But where as actual venues go...Well we have our kind of HQ venue where we have played countless times: the Peel in Kingston, www.peelmuzik.com. This little venue has given us some very enjoyable gigs. Also, the Pav Tav in Brighton was also amazing.
What do you try to have people get from your music?
We want people listening to our music and then singing or humming the song when they are away from it, we want our music to stay with you and not just be one of the average bands out there.
What makes you different from other bands out there?
The fact that its so hard to pigeon hole Myriad's genre. We are rock essentially yes, but we have elements of metal, pop, progressive rock and punk. This is what makes us different as most new bands out there, you listen to them and you think 'ah, sounds a bit like ......(insert band here)'. Not with us though.
If you could open up for any band, who?
I think Muse or InMe would be the obvious choice, just due to the major influences they have on Myriad. Also, Muse would be great to open up for because obviously they aren't playing stages smaller than 10,000 people!
What do you like to do on the road?
We like to do normal guy stuff, have plenty of jokes, drink some beer and watch the greatness that is family guy! As well as trying to pen down new songs!
Any wild or crazy stories you'd like to share? .
Too many to mention! All i can say is, a fond memory envolves a turkey, a lot of beer, a plastic zebra and the beach.
If you could advice to a starting band or musician, what would it be?
Welcome to the real world of music! Its pretty awesome
What do you think of Big Smile Magazine?
I think Big Smile Magazine is amazing. Any person or organisation that spreads the word of underground music free of charge is a godsend. Its thanks to people like you that give bands like us great opportunites to spread the word. So thank you !
Anything else you'd like to add or say anything to a fan reading this?
December/January time... Myriad's new EP will be unleashed. The title will be: Dead End Street
We hope you like it as much as we do!
